SEBI supervises social media using AI & ML

Chairman of Sebi says that, the organization’s motive has always directed towards invigorating and escalating innovation and capacity building and simultaneously to be cognizant of the possible danger linked with such capacity building alongside it’s management.

Vigilantes of the Market securities, Sebi, has chosen to use machine learning , artificial intelligence and deep learning to scrutinize the social media analytics and Information Technology security, informs the regulator this Tuesday, stating the chairman Ajay Tyagi from the speech he delivered at an event  in Singapore.

Sebi looks forward to invest Rs 500 crores in the forthcoming five years on advancing and constructing fresh IT capabilities, spoke the Sebi chairman at the National University of Singapore’s South Asian Diaspora Convention.

Modern technology approach and theories such as Robotics Process Automation, Distributed Ledger Technology, Natural Language Processing are being adopted and insinuated in cleaning and settlement, vigilance, risk management, production automation, etc, fields of securities markets, said Tyagi.

Chairman of Sebi says that, the organization’s motive has always directed towards invigorating and escalating innovation and capacity building and simultaneously to be cognizant of the possible danger linked with such capacity building alongside it’s management. He marks his words by conveying that, Sebi doesn’t define the specifics of the technology to be used by intermediaries for implementing their functions and the regulations are technology skeptics. Nonetheless, it assures that the risks associated with new technologies took up by regulated bodies adhere to IOSCO’s rules relating to that field.

Contemplating the importance of technology prevailing in Sebi’s operations, he said that, the regulator continually amends and uses technology and devises a plan to invest Rs 500 crores in the upcoming five years on IT projects. Tyagi also assured that Sebi is planning to hold its own private cloud in order to cater all the IT related needs of Sebi, which is extensible and remains compatible with all kinds of technology.

To identify and extenuate cyber attacks on Sebi’s IT infrastructure effectively, it is also establishing a Network Operations Centre for constant supervision of the easy operation of the Sebi IT network and Securities Operations Centre.
